Finding your way around Settings

One Settings entry, one overview, one search box.

Written by Austin Carroll

Settings used to be several unrelated pages, each with its own tabs, and no single answer to "where do I change this". It is now one place: a single Settings entry in the sidebar, an overview of everything you can reach, and a search box that goes straight to the individual control you are after.

Opening Settings

Click Settings at the foot of the workspace sidebar. Settings takes over the left rail, so the whole window is given to it. The rail holds Return to workspace at the top, the settings groups in the middle, and your name with a logout button pinned at the bottom.

The overview page

Settings opens on All settings, a card grid of every section you can reach, laid out in the same groups as the rail. Each card names the section and says in a line what it covers, so you can find the right one without opening three others first.

Sections you will use most often carry a gold star, both on their card and in the rail: Approvals, Members, AI Policies and Social members.

You can come back to this page at any time by clicking All settings at the top of the rail.

Searching for a setting

The search box sits at the top right of the overview, and pressing / anywhere in Settings jumps you into it.

Search covers individual controls, not only pages. Type timezone and you get the timezone control itself rather than the page it lives on; choose it and Settings opens that page and highlights the row. Type mfa and you land on the two-factor requirement.

Old names still work as search terms, so if you know a setting by what it used to be called, searching for that will still find it. Arrow keys move through results, Enter opens one, and Escape closes the box.

If you are not an admin

You see Personal settings and nothing else. The Company, Members, Compliance and Social Reach groups are not shown to you at all, rather than shown and locked, and admin settings do not appear in your search results either. You can still change your own profile, preferences, notifications and integrations.

The one exception is when your company enforces capability roles and you hold a role that includes the Admin permission, such as Compliance Admin. Then you also see Approvals under Company and the three Compliance sections (AI Policies, Policy tasks & audit trail and Review settings), but not the rest of the admin settings.

What has changed

If you knew the old Settings, these are the differences worth knowing.

Preferences and Notifications are now one page. Between them they held a timezone and a handful of checkboxes, so they are together under Preferences & notifications.

Custom fields and Option lists are now one page, called Fields & option lists, with Required at Upload first, since that is what most admins open the section to set.

Personal and Company integrations are labelled separately. As an admin you see both, one group apart, so the labels now say which is which.

Social Reach comes last in the rail, and your own Social pages, meaning Personal Integrations and My Voice, sit in Personal settings with the rest of your account.

Old links still work. Bookmarks and links in older help articles and notification emails redirect to the new location rather than breaking.
