Warrant can check your content for correct use of your trademarks and for consistency with your brand guidelines, in the same scan that checks regulations and disclosures. This article is for admins and brand or compliance owners who set this up.
Trademarks
There are two ways to tell Warrant about your marks. Many teams use both.
Option 1: a Trademarks library (recommended)
A Trademarks library holds one record per mark, with the details Warrant needs to check it.
Go to Brand Portal → Libraries.
Under Start from a template, click Trademarks, name the library and finish the builder.
Open the library and click Add Mark. Upload a trademark register or brand guide section and let the AI extract the marks, or fill in each one manually.
Each mark can record:
Mark: exactly as it must appear, including ® or ™.
Mark type: Word mark, Logo, Slogan / tagline, Product name, or Licensed third-party mark.
Registration status: Registered (®), Pending (™), Unregistered (™), or Licensed.
Registration number, Owner / licensor and Usage rules (for example symbol on first use, capitalization, required attribution line).
When content is scanned, Warrant flags a mark that is misspelled, altered, pluralized, used as a verb or generic noun, missing its ® or ™ on first use, or used in a way its usage rules prohibit. It also flags a ® on a mark that is only pending or unregistered, and a licensed third-party mark used without its attribution. See Brand Portal Libraries for more on creating libraries and records.
Option 2: a Trademark policy
For a single rule you want written in your own words, create a custom policy of type Trademark.
Click Settings in the left sidebar, then under Compliance click AI Policies.
Click Create Policy.
Set Type to Trademark, then enter the Name, Severity and Description of the rule. Optionally scope it to channels, products or audiences, and add guidance in When To Use.
Click Create Policy.
Brand guidelines
Brand guidelines are the documents that describe your tone, voice, terminology and visual rules. Warrant reads their text and can check every scan against them.
Upload brand guidelines
Go to Brand Portal → Brands.
To add a new brand, click Add Brand, enter the Brand name, and use Upload brand guidelines to attach the guide. Click Create brand.
To add guidelines to an existing brand, open the brand, click Edit, and in the Brand Guidelines & Files section click Upload (or Upload Brand Guidelines if the brand already has files). PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint decks, text files and images are accepted.
Each uploaded guideline is added to your Library as a file and opens in the File Viewer. Once Warrant has read its text, the card shows Used in AI scans. If it shows Extraction failed, try uploading the file again or in another format.
What a brand holds
Besides its guideline documents, each brand can hold the details Warrant checks your content against. Open the brand and click Edit to set them:
Brand Name and Description: what the brand is, including its audience, tone and visual identity.
Brand Guidelines & Files: style guides, voice and tone guides and other guideline documents.
Logos: Primary, Secondary and Icon logo variants.
Colors: the brand palette, as hex values with optional names.
Typography: the brand's approved font files.
When brand checks are on, scans of a file tagged with a brand also flag colors, fonts and logo use that don't match that brand. Brand colors also style the images Warrant generates for social posts. For every field and how each is used, see Brands and Brand Guidelines.
Update brand guidelines
Because a guideline document is a regular file in your Library, you manage its versions on the file itself, the same way as any other file. Open the guideline in the File Viewer to see or add versions. To change only a guideline's title or description, open the brand, click Edit, and use the pencil icon on the file.
Turn on brand guideline checks
Uploading guidelines does not change your scans until an admin turns the check on.
Click Settings in the left sidebar.
Under Compliance, open Review settings.
In the Brand guidelines card, turn on Check content against brand guidelines and confirm with Turn on brand checking.
From then on, every compliance scan also reviews content against your brand guideline documents, and brand findings appear alongside regulatory findings. If your company uses Social, the same card has a Reach default guideline setting that chooses which guideline is used for social posts.
How scans check trademarks and brand guidelines
In the Scan panel, the switches for trademarks, brand guidelines and libraries are on by default. To leave any of them out of a single scan:
In the Scan panel, open Customize Results.
Under What to check, turn off Trademarks (Trademark policies), Brand Guidelines, or Brand Portal Libraries (which includes a Trademarks library). Under Brand Portal Libraries you can also untick just your Trademarks library.
The Brand Guidelines switch only has an effect when Check content against brand guidelines is on in Review settings.
