Generate Images for Social Posts

Create on-brand images, carousels and YouTube thumbnails for your social posts with AI.

Written by Austin Carroll

Warrant can create an on-brand image, a short carousel or a YouTube thumbnail for a social post. You can ask for one while you generate the post, or add one to any draft from the editor. Images follow your brand's colors and guidelines, are attached to the post automatically and are saved to your Library. Anyone with a Social seat can generate images for their draft posts.

Generate an image along with the post

  1. Open the Generate post dialog, for example with Create New, then Generate Post. See Create a Post in Social.

  2. Pick the platform and your source as usual.

  3. Turn on Branded image. On YouTube this reads Branded thumbnail, and the image becomes the video's thumbnail.

  4. Choose a Size. The platform's recommended size is selected first (see the sizes below).

  5. Under How many images, keep One image or choose a carousel of 2 or 3. For a carousel, you can describe what the Cover and each slide should show. These lines are optional.

  6. Optionally, add up to 5 Example images to steer the look: click the upload button or choose images from your Library.

  7. Select Generate.

The image is based on the topic or angle you typed, or on the finished post if you didn't give one.

Branded image is not offered when:

  • The platform is TikTok, which only takes video.

  • You're generating From file with an image or video. That file is attached to the post instead. (On YouTube, the branded thumbnail is still offered.)

Add an image to a draft

  1. In the editor, select Add media, then Generate with AI. For a YouTube post, use Generate with AI in the Thumbnail row instead.

  2. Under What should the image show?, describe the image. The box is prefilled with your post's text, so you can use it as is, edit it or replace it.

  3. If a carousel is available, describe what the Cover and each slide should show. Leave a slide blank and it follows the main description.

  4. Under References, add up to 5 of your own images, by upload or from your Library, for the image to work from. Images only.

  5. Choose a Size.

  6. Select Generate image for a single image, or Generate carousel for a set. The carousel button shows how many slides it will create.

Generation runs in the background, so you can close the dialog or leave the page. The image is added to your post when it's ready, and you're told when it lands. When you reopen the dialog, it shows the result.

  • Select Regenerate for a different take. The new image replaces the one the last generation added, so your post doesn't fill up with drafts.

  • Select Done to close the dialog.

The first size listed for each platform is the recommended one and is selected for you.

TikTok and YouTube posts need a video, so AI images can't be added to them as media. On YouTube you can generate the thumbnail instead.

Carousels

  • A carousel can have up to 3 AI-generated images, and is available on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram and Reddit.

  • The number of slides on offer also depends on how many of your own images or videos are already on the post, so the set always fits the platform's attachment limit.

  • All slides share one look (palette, type and framing), and the cover is designed to earn the tap.

  • Generating a new carousel replaces the post's current AI images as a set.

How your brand is used

  • The image is styled for the post's brand: the first brand assigned to the post, or your company's only brand if you have just one.

  • That brand's color palette is used as the image's dominant colors.

  • Your company's brand voice sets the visual mood, and words on your prohibited language list are never written into the image.

  • When brand guidelines are turned on for your company, the image follows the visual direction in your guideline document.

  • The image is also composed for the platform, following the same imagery advice as Platform Guides.

Where generated images are saved

  • Every generated image is saved to your Library as a PNG at the exact size you chose, named "AI image" or "AI carousel" followed by the start of your description.

  • Each one is marked as AI generated and tagged with the brand it was styled for.

  • Images you replace with Regenerate stay in your Library.

Limits and messages

  • A post can carry up to 3 AI-generated images at a time. Remove one to generate another.

  • One generation runs per post at a time. If one is already running, the dialog shows it rather than starting another.

  • Images can only be generated for posts that are still drafts. If an image is still generating, wait for it to be added before you select Submit for approval.

  • Generate is unavailable until your reference images finish uploading.

  • If Warrant can't produce an image for your description, reword it and try again. If generation is busy or takes too long, wait a moment and try again.

Generated images are part of the post, so they are reviewed with it. Run Check compliance after adding one, just as you would for an image you uploaded.
